Music @Flipside, Esplanade
Haven't been blogging the past few days. Tired & no opportunity to even touch my PC at home. So I'm doing it now in my office, haha! Free at the moment~hey, it's one of the rare times I'm so free ok? Not loathing=p
Went to the Esplanade on Sunday cos Ling wanted to catch some performance from Flipside. It's only a small part of the Singapore Arts Fest showcasing various performance by artists, musicians & bands, local & overseas. Never really attended much of Arts Fest in the past. I remembered the first time I went for an Arts Fest performance was during JC and my class was sort of made to go...haha, so it was a no choice kinda feeling when we went. But now, I actually went on my own accord, heex...thanks to the introduction from Ling. And the performance was great! So happy..I felt as if my ears and eyes had juz had a feast:) The music, the scenery(we were at the outdoor theatre)...with my best company! Haha, it felt so romantic (cos of the scenery lah) & peaceful; though we 2 siao-zha-bo's always cracking lame jokes, ha! But I truly enjoyed my 4 hours there. It's a pity I missed those performance the day before.
We stopped by for a performance by Juzsteel (Hope I didn't get their name wrong). They had a full set of drums, playing repertoire including soothing melodies, catchy rhythms of Caribbean music, as well as familiar pop songs and light classics. Didn't manage to catch their entire performance but they really displayed vibrance while playing their pieces...they look so happy and you'd just get affected looking at them play. I think that's so important: to be happy with whatever you're doing in life.
Then we caught the performance by a French brass band of 8 musicians~Les Groom. I like their spontaneous and play-anywhere-for-anybody kind of performance. They played folk, jazz, ethnics, classics, film themes and some of their very own compositions if I'm not wrong. They're so cute and humorous I must say, although sometimes I may not understand what they're saying especially if they start talking in french, haha! But it's the body language, the facial expressions, their music and their voices (the girl singing soprano and the guy singing tenors was good:)). I was well entertained for this one...hee.
The last performance was "A Private Screening of Gina Tan". Of cos the artiste performing was Gina! She's a local artiste who previously released 2 albums then I don't know where she went. I didn't have a deep impression of her then but it was that song of hers that I remembered-<<妹妹你真美>>. Haha, that song was so yucky...oops, but I really thought it was a wrong choice of song to put in an album lah. Anyway, that's besides the point. In the performance @Esplanade, she sang songs by Karen Carpenters and on the second session, it was english oldies! So nice...I like them all! This show really changed my view about Gina's singing, waha, she's well...maybe not fantastic, but fabulous!! Haha! Luckily I got my mp3 then, I manage to record her live performance in my Muvo! Woho! I'm listening to it like everyday?! Nice nice nice:) I'm definitely going down Flipside, Esplanade again! Wheeeee!!!
There's this song by Karen Carpenters-The End of The World. I love this song esp. the lyrics and Gina sang it so well:) The lyrics sound so tragic...quite exaggerated & drama lah *cos I'd never think it's the end of the world just b'cos your bf/gf left you, BGR's just 1 aspect of life, you can always survive without it*...but...I still like this song! Haha=p Here's the lyrics (but what's a song w/o melody? So you've gotta listen to it) :-

Why does the sun go on shining?
Why does the sea rush to shore?
Don't they know it's the end of the world,`cause you don't love me anymore?
Why do the birds go on singing?
Why do the stars glow above?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when I lost your love.
I wake up in the morning and I wonder why
ev'rything's the same as it was.
I can't understand, no I can't understand,
how life goes on the way it does!
Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said good-bye.
