First week of WORK
Officially started work on 28 August 2006. It was a brand new experience for me. Even though I've taken up umpteen number of temporary assignments before, this time it's really different. I have to carve a career path of my own from this very moment onwards. I've gotta shove my way up. I really hope I can do it. I'll work hard towards this goal! Hold on to faith. Patience...
First day was orientation & meeting up with the many faces in the company. One week over and I still can't really remember everyone and their names. Haha, problem with face and name matching still. Subsequent days were reading, reading and more reading. Did some "tutorial" problems as well. Tagged around the team whenever they went down to the workfloor to troubleshoot and inspect the parts. Guess the workfloor guys are still not used to the idea of a female engineer around their workfloor. Still getting too much "attention" than I require when I'm down there. Hopefully everyone will get accustomed to this soon..including myself.
Colleagues were great I must say. Fun loving bunch of guys who are willing to guide me since I'm still new to the industry. Typical guys that goes around ogling at "Chio baby" all the time. Haha...probably trying to "spice" up their lives. Pulled me into going training overseas with them. Thanks to them for initiating and persuading myself and boss..I got the chance to go:) Moral of the story: You've gotta fight for yourself in the outside world. A little worried about the trip though. First time going so far to the other side of the globe on my own. That aside, it's been great working cos Boss reminds me so much of Prof Butler..probably just younger, studious and more serious..since he's the boss? Haha! The kind who's willing go the extra mile for his people. After 5 days at work..had a conclusion: Don't take advantage just because people are kind. Know the limits & practise self restraint.
Fourth day of work and beginning to feel the politics in working environment. Good news was that I got to go overseas for training with everyone. But like a bomb dropped, we had to sign a bond of 1 year. Fourth day of work and they're talking about signing a bond! It's not really a problem to me...but who doesn't want to be free? No one can anticipate the future. Fortunately boss fought the policy for us...and succeeded! Woohoo! No bond! *Grin*
So much to pick up...move it MOVE IT!!! Too early to judge on too many things. Next week will be a better week. Yeah..hope so:)
